It was almost a one way street for Java Lane Sports Club when they trounced Ratnam Sports Club to annex the Gold Cup at the final at the City Football League ground in Colombo recently.
At the short whistle Java Lane led 1-0.
This was the first time that Java Lane won the Gold Cup. In the eighth minute of play, Java Lane went one up when M.A.M. Najimudeen taking a rebound off the Ratnam goal keeper to score the opener.
After the break, mid field A.C. Naleem increased Java Lane’s tally by two more when he scored in the 64th and 65th minutes.
In the 85th minute, Ratnam got a consolation goal when their attacker M.R. Moihideen found the back of the Java Lane net to make the final tally 3-1 at the final whistle. The game was refereed by G.N. Rubesh. The winners received the gold and a cash award of Rs. 50,000/- and replicas, while the runners up also received a trophy, a cash award of Rs 25,000/- and replicas. The team was coached for the second year by Mohamed Adam of the Maldives who is a certifie ‘A’ grade coach.
The chief guest at the final was R. Puvanandiran, vice president of the FFSL and president of the City Football League, while the guests of honour were R. Jayaratnam, Chairman Shadow Line Enterprises and vice patron CFL and Chairman Solid Gold and vice patron of the CFL. -BM |
