“So far 210 drivers and riders have entered the Fox Hill Super Cross. Apart from Sri Lanka’s leading drivers and riders, the event will see the defending Fox Hill riding champion Tomoya Suzuki and two Indian riders, including the current SLARDAR champion, KP Aravind,” Mahesh Gammanpila, the president of SLARDAR said.

Over the past years this event has elevated itself to a standard which is much loved and has managed to attract record number of spectators annually. With a team championship on the cards for the first time in its history, defending champion driver of Fox Hill, Pasindu Peiris of Ezy Racing who thrilled the spectators by outmanoeuvring Indian rally driver Naren Kumar, will expect to challenge Dinesh Deheragoda who represents the Daredevils. Deheragoda will be driving his newest Mitsubishi Evo 10 2012, while one of the top contenders, Aravinda Premadasa will compete with his new team, Exide. Rizvi Farouk, who had ridden in all Fox Hill championships, will represent Ezy Racing. “There will be seven teams vying for the title in groups. Ezy Racing will field three teams while Exide, Caraboa, Amarasiri and Daredevils will be the other teams in action. In addition father and son Ananda and Ken Wedisinghe will compete in the 250cc motorcycle event. This year potential rider Shehan C. Adikhari for the first time will compete in the main riding event along with experienced riders. We at SLARDAR have allocated prize money for some selected events,” Gammanpila added.

Preparations to make the Fox Hill a much greater success are underway with the personal supervision of SLMA Commandant Brigadier Priyantha Jayasundera. Jayasundera was certain of delivering a memorable Fox Hill in their 20th edition. He said that while offering unparalleled excitement, the proceeds of the event as in the past 19 years will be utilised to upgrade the SLMA facilities. Event coordinator Lt. Col. Upul Kodituwakku further clarified on this.

“The SLMA will allocate the proceeds towards enhancing infrastructure, adding facilities and also to acquire much needed equipment for the academy. Few charities are also allotted to get assistance. Coming to the main event, the SLMA are fully gearing up for the event. We are preparing the track but during the day the venue experiences some rain. But it won’t be ominous to the event. We also expect a large crowd and spectators are advised to be present by 8.30 in the morning as we will commence the races sharp at 9.00am. Following the races there will be a special musical show,” said Kodituwakku.
Altogether 25 events will be lined up for the day. The Fox Hill Super Cross, which is the only motor racing event in Sri Lanka to run uninterrupted, will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year. This will be the third round of the CEAT-SLARDAR Championship for 2012.
