Nawaloka pavilion needs urgent repair

Text and Pix by P D de Silva

The cyclonic winds that hit Matara on the 25th of November caused severe damage to the roof of the Nawaloka Pavillion at the Uyanwatta Cricket Stadium.

Almost a month has passed but the Matara District Cricket Association to whom the building was gifted by the late Deshamanya H.K. Dharmadasa have taken no action to repair the damage even though they have sufficient funds in the kitty.

Sri Lanka Cricket repaired this pavillion for the 111th big match between St. Servatius College and St. Thomas' college in March.Rain water which pours into the building is causing further damage to the interior. Probably the MDCA may be hoping that the bankrupt Sri Lanka Cricket or the Nawaloka Group will repair this essential facility in time for the school first XI fixtures which start in January.
