Army emerge Clifford Cup champions

84th Clifford Cup Boxing Championship

Army emerged the Clifford Cup boxing champions for the second successive year with a haul of four gold medals at the 84th Clifford Cup Boxing Championship concluded at the MAS Linea boxing ring at Pallekele yesterday.

Army secured their gold medals from W.A.C. Perera, W.R.T. Weerakkody, M.A. Divaratne and P.P.D. Premasinghe. In second place was Air Force who won three gold medals followed by Slimline BC with two gold medals.

In the women’s category MAS Southern came out on top winning four gold medals through Sri Lanka boxer Anusha Kodituwakku, Vidushika Prabadhi, M.M.K. Rajapakse and J.G.J. Dharsha.
P.D. Suresh of Slimline BC was adjudged the best boxer with T.R. Madusanka taking the best losers award. In the women’s category S.D.N. Karunatane and U.G.J. Ratwatte of Army were adjudged the best boxer and best loser.-MSA
