Nestle wins Best Corporate Citizen award

Nestle Lanka PLC was adjudged the Best Corporate Citizen 2011 at the Awards Ceremony of the Best Corporate Citizen 2011 for CSR and Sustainable Business held in Colombo last week with Champika Ranawaka, Minister of Power and Energy as chief guest.

The awards ceremony was organized for the 8th consecutive year by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. The keynote address was made by Suresh P Prabhu, former Indian Cabinet Minister of Environment and Forests, Industry and Energy. The First Runner-up was MAS Intimate Pvt Ltd and the Second Runner-up - Hatton National Bank (HNB).

Mr Ranawaka said that more companies increasingly adopt responsible business practices and thus the term Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is not knew to Sri Lanka. He said that these attempts by corporate entities impact positively not only for the businesses and their shareholders, but also for the society, the environment and the nation as a whole.

He said that the Best Corporate Citizen Award that recognizes local companies for their CSR and sustainable business practices plays an important role in highlighting and recognizing organizations for their efforts while encouraging others to adopt best practices.

Other awards under categories: CSR Environment – MAS Intimates; Customer and Supplier Relationship and Employee Relations – Nestle Lanka; Community and CSR – Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) and Governance and Economic Relations – HNB. Under 15 Billion category Awards: Link Natural Products Ltd; First Runner-up Colombo Dockyard PLC and Second Runner-up – National Development Bank. Ten Best Corporate Citizens: Aitken Spence PLC, Aviva Insurance NDB PLC, Ceylon Biscuits Ltd, Colombo Dockyard PLC, HNB; Link Natural Products (Pvt) Ltd, MAS Intimate (Pvt) Ltd, Nestle Lanka PLC, Singer Sri Lanka PLC and HSBC.
