Royal College, Colombo led by Nadeesh Herath defeated favourites D.S. Senanayake College 3-2 in a tense final to emerge winners to clinch the Inter-School Squash Championship 2011 concluded at the S. Thomas’ College courts recently.
 In the first match of the finals, Ravindu Laksiri of DSS beat Devin Ediriweera while in the second set leading from the front skipper Herath gave a superb display of quality squash to overrun Janith of DSS to level the scores 1-1.
DSS captain Dilshan Gunawardene brought his team to the front to make it 2-1 when he beat Royalist Ruweesha Jayawardene in the third set. Hasala Gamlath of Royal defeated M.W. Shamil to make it 2-2. In the final set Dasith Senanayake made the final decoration to beat L. Navodya easily to make the overall score 3-2 in favour of Royal.
The champion Royal team was guided by coaches R.S. Deen, Chandana and M. Rizwan with Mrs. Nilmini Tennakoon as teacher-in-charge. |
