Central Kings jolted by Jaffna Challengers

Southern Sharks led by Amjad Buksh continued their winning and unbeaten run in the Carlton Super Sevens rugby series second leg at the Royal Sport Complex yesterday. The second leg of this series continued after the last week-end games up in the Hill capital.

The Super Sevens Tournament of this tournament is being worked off in the format of IPL (Indian Premier Cricket League). Each team comprises of maximum of two foreigners and an under 21 player is a must.

Southern Sharks opened the day with a convincing win over the Western Warriors by 45-5 and continued their winning streak against Sabaragamuwa Stallions 27-12. In their third game they outclassed the Eastern Eagles 26-14 after a late second half rally. For the Southern Sharks their skipper Amjad Buksh was outstanding. He was omnipresent and his dummies were a treat for the packed stadium. He got ample support from his team mates Dilip Selvam and Dinushka Chathuranga.
In another game worked off early in the day Cup’s closest rival for Southern Sharks and second placed in the first leg Central Kings led by Fazil Marija suffered a shocking defeat by Jaffna Challengers led by Yoshitha Rajapaksa.

Today is the last day of the tournament which will kick off at 1.00 pm at the Royal Sports Complex.

Ronny Ibrahim Director of Tharunyata Hetak speaking to the Sunday Times said he was very happy at the way this tournament is worked and praised the good public response. He further said that with a huge crowd and lot of following for rugby in Sri Lanka which is good encouragement for youngsters who get an opportunity to play with the foreigners.

He ended by saying that this tournament will be much stronger next season with some top class overseas players already showing a lot of interest to participate.
