Sri Lanka second in karate contest

Sri Lanka took second spot at the South Asian Games Karate Championships held in Gujarat, India. Teams from Sri Lanka, India, and Bangladesh took part in the two day event. Sri Lanka was represented by 15 members of the Sri Lanka Akaishu Karate Association and a special feature of the Sri Lanka team was that they were all schoolboys.

The Sri Lankan lads managed to win 18 Gold, Five Silver and four Bronze medals at the event. The Sri Lanka team consisted of W. Kavinda Ravindra (Ginthota MV), D. Kalhar (Vidyaloka V Galle), J.S. Muditha Jayaranga (Rathgama Sirisumana Vidyalaya), A.S. Shikari Nuwanthi (Rathgama Sri Sumanana Vidyalaya), S. Dineth Priyanga de Silva (Maliduwa Sariputhra V), T.H. Kavishka (C K. Inosha Madushani (Rathgama Devapathiraja V), T.H. Sahan Viraj (Richmond Galle), L.M. Indrakumar (Maliduwa Sariputhra V), P.H. Dilshan Mendis (Maliduwa Sariputhra V), Sudath Mendis (Secretary), N. Vimukthi Dananjaya Silva (St. Aloysius Galle), M.M.K. Uyan Pathmil (Ambalangoda Dharmasoka).
