Inaugural Walawe Supercross on November 19 and 20

The Sri Lanka Motor Cycle Club (SLMCC) along with the Army Motor Sports Committee (AMSC) has finalized arrangements to conduct the inaugural Walawe Supercross 2011 on November 19 and 20 for motor cars and motor cycles at the Uda Walawe Army Supercross Track in Sevanagala Uda Walawe.
The SLMCC has a proud history of over six decades in organizing motor racing meets in Sri Lanka such as the Reliability Trials, Circuit Meets in Kurunegala, Ratmalana and Matugama, Road Races in Kurunegala, Galle, Nuwara Eliya, Kandy and Colombo.

The track situated at the 17th Mile Post on the Uda Walawe -Thanamalwila main road outside the Army camp is close to the Uda Walawe National Park. The track, according to officials, is in the range of about 1.5 km. Since the track is outside the Army camp provisions will be made for the drivers and riders to practice and test their machines on this newly laid track without restrictions for a nominal fee.

The Uda Walawe National Wildlife Park is a major eco tourism village which is one of the best parks to view elephants. It has become a holiday resort and with this in mind the organizers SLMCC together with the AMSC, Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Regiment are making every effort to make this a grand event.

One of the attractions for the vast crowds that are expected will be the display of Sri Lanka Model Aircraft. Ten events have been lined up for the day which will consist of six motor car and four motorbike events. Entries for the events close on November 7 at 92/8 Ananda Rajakaruna Mawatha, Colombo 10.
