‘Mayura Asapuwa’ on ethnic issue

‘Mayura Asapuwa’ the latest teleplay directed by veteran actress and teledrama maker Sriyani Amerasena is one revolving around a Sinhalese politician who falls in love with a Tamil girl and it deals on the ethnic issue.

Produced by Dhammika Aluthgedara, ‘Mayura Asapuwa’ is played by Jeewan Kumaratunga, Oshadi Hewamadduamage, Paboda Sandeepani, Dhananjaya Siriwadardena, Janaki Wijeratne, Dhammika Aluthgedara, Palitha Silva, Sunil Lukshman, Harsha Bulathsinghala, Grace Ariyawimal, Ashen Manjula, Kumudu Nishantha, Buddhika Rambukwella, Buddhika Lokuketiya, Geetha Kanthi Jayakody and Sriyani herself.

The teleplay is telecast every Tuesday at 8.30 pm on Rupavahini channel, tells the story of Anuruddha Dassanayake, a young politician who makes a secret visit to Japan as his life was in danger in Sri Lanka. Popularly known as an efficient politician, Anuruddha loves his independence and is annoyed by tight security provided to him.

During his stay Anuruddha plans a visit to some of the tourist attractions in Japan and he meets Radhika, a young Tamil girl who had to leave Sri Lanka due to civil war. They soon become lovers and Radhika divulges all her information. But Anuruddha who fears that he would loose Radhika with whom he has started a serious love affair hides his real identity and the reason for him to leave Sri Lanka. For her he pretends to be just another holiday maker from Sri Lanka.

It was during this stage that, Anuruddha’s opponents in Sri Lanka come to know about his whereabouts and plot to kill him in Japan. They hire Rakesh, Radhika’s cousin to carry out the murder stratagem but Rakesh realizes that he was going to harm Radhika’s newly found boyfriend. He informs Radhika about Anuruddha’s real identity and this leads to a conflict between the lovers. Anuruddha, at this point tells her the real reason for his failure to hide his real identity.

What would happen to their love? Would Rakesh continue with his murder plot? What objections would Radhika and Anuruddha have to face? The viewers would be able to find all these at the end of the 29 episode of ‘Mayura Asapuwa’.
