Maiden effort of ‘Chimes of the 70’s’

‘Piyaneni’, the much awaited music album of the band ‘Chimes of the 70’s’. led by Rukshan Karunanayake, will be launched in a grand musical fiesta at the auditorium of the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management, Colombo 3 on Sunday, 24 July at 4.00pm.

Chimes of The 70 will be seen in action at this ceremony with their original compositions, along with of some legendary 70s artists. Veteran compere, Dr. Vijaya Corea, will be the evening’s host. Their maiden music album and music video will be launched under the guidance of veteran artiste, Bhadraji Mahinda Jayatilake, at this ceremony.

The song ‘Piyaneni’ is the title track of their album and some of the popular artistes rendered their voices to album. Ronnie Leitch, Sanette Dikkumbura and Sneha Wasundara, appear in this video.
The band ‘Chimes of the 70’s’ is dedicated to promote the music style of seventies era specially the song of late Clarence Wijewardena.

The band comprises of leader Rukshan, Isura Roshan Senanayake, Chulani Suraweera, Vimani Kaparubandara and Osanda Gagame, Dhakshini Savithiri de Silva and Thalatha Sanapathi. The Piyaneni album features 11 new Sinhala songs and one original English song, along with three new instrument music tracks, based on different flavours.

Rukshan Karunanayake with the musical accompaniment of the rest of the band members, handled all the melodies and music directions of the album. Isura Roshan Senanayake, Chulani Suraweera, Vimani Kaparubandara and Osanda Gagame have rendered their voices to this maiden album.

The lyricists are Bhadraji Mahinda Jayatilaka, Dhakshini Savithiri de Silva and Thalatha Sanapathi while the rest were penned by Rukshan Karunanayake. The album also features top Lankan bassist, Hussain Jiffry, where he has joined hands with ‘Chimes of The 70s’ to play bass guitar for the original English track, titled “Dreams To Follow,” sung by Chulani Suraweera and Vimani Kaparubandara.

Nine-year-old Udesha Karunanayake, the youngest drummer in Sri Lanka, played drums for 11 of the songs on the album. The entire album was recorded and mastered at the group own recordings studio, ‘Studio Udeshan’ by Rukshan Karunanayake and Sugath Asanka.
