Onstage finalists battle it out

After a roller-coaster ride through three rounds of preliminaries and two rounds of semi-finals, the line-up for TNL Onstage 2011 Finals: ‘Party in the Park’ is “finally” ready. The bands and soloists taking the stage at the Vihara Maha Devi Park on the evening of Saturday, July 29 at 5pm will feature big names that found their footing in the competition, as well as this year’s finalists.

SHUAIB

Juggling music, school and rugby is no easy game, and “getting in was a surprise” Shuaib says of making the Finals. He’s promised to work hard and give the audience something to remember!

SHEVON

Having been onstage at Onstage before with Willie’s Jeep in 2009, our gentleman has so far fared very well as a soloist. He knows what he’s done right, and admits what he’s done wrong. The Finals will see his “hundred-percent”, the vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist says.

ETHEREAL

Hemal – Vocals
Shehan – Lead Guitar
Sathya – Rhythm Guitar
Avanka – Bass
Shimron – Drums

This is one band that got their name down right. They’ve got strong vocals, a good understanding of their strengths, precise delivery. There’s evidently some unearthly inspiration leading these boys. Whether it’s to victory is yet to be seen!

SHEHARA

Miss punk says she ’s been “nervous” at the competitions, but don’t be fooled by the pretty looks – her voice says she’s got steel, and the girl is sure going for gold. Shehara has come across so far as confident on stage, and continues to be so off-stage, asserting she “hopes to win” at the finals.

DILINI

Smooth and sultry, classically trained and ready to blow some minds but still nervous! Dilini is easy about the results; enjoying the thrill and being ready for “whatever” being more her focus at the competition.

CORD OF MAJOR

Imran – Vocals
Yuthika – Lead Guitar
Supun – Rhythm Guitar/ Keyboards/ Backing Vocals,
Heshan – Bass
Surandhika – Drums

The nicer of the boys, we’re prone to feel, their sound being less dark than those of the other bands. We’re yet to see if they have the steel to make it to the top!

ANDRE

Just 17 and already employed, dreaming of being a pastry chef and making music. Andre had a tough time at the preliminary round, but has made the best of it and is hopeful about the finals. The girls are hopeful about him too, all that screaming screams!

WHITE LIVING GRAVE

Asith – Vocals/Guitar
Indranath – Lead Guitar
Wajra – Bass
Heshan – Drums

Very near professional and definitely setting some teeth on edge with their precise metal, White Living Grave is evidently on the way to some serious fame. Drummer Heshan is definitely calling for notice, not just with his skill but also his passion.

ROADKILL

Ryan – Vocals
Manujith – Guitar
Shamika – Guitar
Akila – Bass
Kushal – Drums

They are tall, dark and deadly, laying claim to a truly flexible vocalist who can potentially rid you of your eardrums. The question though, is whether they can rid the judges of criticisms!

HARSHANA

Violinist, pianist, guitarist, Harshana says “not at all!” when asked whether he expected to make it to the finals yet looks forward to “something good” come Saturday!

ZILCH

Sarith – Rhythm Guital/ Vocals
Dinuka – Lead Guitar
Stefan – Bass
Kithum – drums
The metal-minus-the-look band that’s got the potential to take an audience by surprise, these boys (and girl) have a powerfully subtle sound.

CRYWOLF

Arfath – Vocals
Shashika – Lead Guitar
Kusal – Rhythm Guitar
Dinith – Bass
Pasindu – Drums
So far, CryWolf has worked well together to create an original sound that pushes beyond the boundaries of imitation, and should gain them some decent mileage.
