Ruhuna grads win at Volleyball

The University of Ruhuna defeated the University of Sabaragamuwa three sets to nil to win the Inter-University Men’s Volleyball Championships last Sunday. Teams from 14 Universities participated at his year’s tournament hosted by the Department of Physical Education of the University of Ruhuna in Matara.

The women’s final was a repeat of last year’s final with the University of Kelaniya defeating the University of Rajarata three sets to nil. The University of Colombo took the third place in both categories defeating Kelaniya three sets to two in the men’s tournament and Peradeniya three sets to nil in the women’s tournament.

Vice Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna, Prof. Susirath Mendis officiated at the opening ceremony while the deputy vice chancellor Prof. Gamini Senanayake gave away the awards. Director of Physical Education of the University of Ruhuna, Sarath Wijetunga coordinated the three day tournament meticulously.
