Rain hampers second day’s proceedings

The second day’s play of all matches in the Under 23 Division One cricket tournament played around the island were hampered by bad weather. The same awaited the Division Two Category on day one.
All matches in both the divisions was called off before 4.00 p.m. No play was possible in the encounter between Air Force and NCC which was due to begin yesterday.

Ragama CC had Sebastianites in deep trouble when play was stopped at 3.45 p.m. in their Under 23 Division One cricket encounter at the NCC ground. Ragama CC having made a formidable 429 for 6 on day one which came on the back of a fine ton by Udara Jayasundara and half tons from Rumesh Buddika and Nayana Fernando.

On day two Ragama CC declared their inning on their overnight score and had the Sebastianites struggling for runs as they bowled them out for a paltry 105 with right arm pacie Lahiru Jayaratne capturing 5 for 35. Sebastianites made to follow on with a massive deficit of 324 runs ended the day on 26 for 2 needing a further 298 runs to avoid an innings defeat when play begins on the final day today.
Levan Moshin and Dinuk Jayasinghe came to the rescue of Tamil Union with an unbroken 62 runs stand for the sixth wicket which helped Tamil Union, batting the second time, to recover from 73 for 5 to 135 in their match against Moors at Braybrooke Place.

This was after Tamil Union had taken the initiative having bowled out Moors, resuming from their overnight score of 208 for 6, to a score of 230 in reply to their score of 250. Nilochana Perera and Dilanka Auwardt steered Colts with an unbroken stand of 123 runs for the eighth wicket enabling Colts resuming from their overnight score of 249 for 7 to end the day making 364 for 7 against SSC played at the SSC ground.

Kandy SC fight back
Kandy SC fought back to restrict Seeduwa/Raddoluwa CC to 132 after being bundled out for 91 in their Under 23 Division Two encounter at the Pallekele Prison ground.
Right arm spinner Kasun Ekanayake with figures of 6 for 27 was responsible in their opponents collapse. Seeduwa/Raddoluwa CC was in a strong position of 70 for 2 but collapsed as they lost their last eight wickets for the addition of 62 runs.
An unbeaten knock off 119 with 20 boundaries and a six by Thamara Kariyawasam was the highlight of the first day’s play in the match between Lankan CC and Xaviarites CC at the Panadura Esplanade.
Singha SC taking first lease of the wicket made 159 against Kalutara TC who ended day one on 10 for no loss in their match at the Kalutara Esplanade.
Left arm spinner Anushka Samaratunga’s five wicket haul saw Old Moratu SC being restricted to 113 for 9 in at Panagoda.

At Pallekele:
