Old Blighty

Now that the Southern southpaw is sidelined after the lethal concoction, it is reported that the near to thee southpaw is getting ready for the visit to the Queen’s Land for the shorter version of the game. One insider quipped “What is he trying to do, make Sri Lanka the laughing stock of the cricketing world?” Another one just brushed it off by saying, “In this land of make believe anything goes as far as he is on the right side of the lane”.

When the saints go marching in
Syla the Sly Vestor blushed as he said parents must behave .The rowdy MAMA shouted that she will do the unthinkable and make the referee wear it. Even unbecoming for the twilight ladies and not when saints play each other for the oval ball in front of kids.

A hard life
A talented nine-year-old cricketer is learning things the hard way. This lad’s outstanding cricketing talents were spotted by the coach of a cricketing school but due to the hard times that the lad is undergoing as his parents are poor; the coach has on many occasions has dug into his own pockets to see that lad has a decent life. However when his parents were approached by a’ do gooder’ to put the lad into a leading school, the so called ‘do gooder’ had insisted that the parents fork out, Rs. 5,000 first, Rs. 6,000 next and Rs.50,000 thereafter. Altogether a sum of Rs.61, 000 was be paid to the ‘do gooder’ in order to meet the boss of the institution. However when the parents met the boss he simply said: NO. When the parents asked for the monies that they had spent to meet the boss, the answer was again NO. Now the parents are wondering how they could pay back the monies that they had borrowed for this useless cause. All this because they belong to the not so affluent society!

Not fit
A top cricketer is said to be avoiding a forthcoming tour to the cooler climes. Reason? He is not fit and avoiding practices. However the powers that be are insisting that he should be in the tour squad. The reason for skipping practices has been given is that he had a fall whilst climbing the steps at home and is now resting.

Avoiding bookings
Top hotels, including two 5 Star ones are said to be avoiding bookings for a leading team due to tour the island in August. The hoteliers say that their earlier bills too have not been paid and that they do not want to end up broke after this tour as well.

Grounds, money or no money
Recently a cash strapped top sporting body had to take a huge loan to settle the salaries of their staff. However the Big Guy in the sporting scene has asked this body to construct two grounds in his home town. He knows jolly well that the body in question has no money. But the request has gone asking for these grounds for the benefit of his sporting public.

Fighting shy
Sportsmen with the bat are fighting shy of being tested for drugs after a leading brother was tested positive. The sportsmen who had been closely associating the one who is guilty are in fear that they too might be asked to be tested.

Still scared
Still on the subject of drugs, a leading athlete who was earlier suspected of having taken drugs is now scared of coming back to sports because of the huge scare she had when she was a leading figure in sporting circles.

Drawing crowds
The scene shifts to a sport played on the green baize. A recent top level competition took place and it is being said that the contest was held at the big wig’s club because he wanted to draw the crowds and with it the dough with it to his club. The others are angry over this move and plan to remove him when the AGM comes along.
