Unique offers from Hawaii Pacific University for Lankan students

Born from the union of water and fire and imbued with a courageous spirit, the Hawaiian Islands have always invited those who welcome the challenge of adventure and exploration. For more than 700 years, Hawaii has hailed adventurers, explorers, immigrants and entrepreneurs from around the globe.
Today’s adventurers might set their sights on different ambitions – global careers rather than gold, intellectual discovery instead of new lands to explore – but the Hawaiian Islands still hold the promise of discovery for all who live and journey here.

Hawai’i Pacific University (HPU) offers you that same promise: the opportunity to challenge yourself, discover new worlds and gain a unique global perspective that will inspire and compel the adventurer that resides – waiting and eager – in your soul.

Associate Director International Admissions Hawai’i Pacific University Lindsey Garbenis stated that the university could offer high class education along with student friendly environment which would mould the students lives as a wholesome person.

With its primary focus on undergraduate students, HPU is the largest private university in the state of Hawaii. With a total of 8,000 students, out of which one third are international students, HPU offers 50 different undergraduate programmes and 13 post graduate programmes.

“The most popular programmes are business, marine biology and nursing,” Garbenis said. “Our MBA programme is also well recognised within USA and the world over and is a popular study for the students.”

Garbenis revealed that the yearly tuition fee is US$ 15,000 and with accommodation, books and spending money, the total cost would come to around US$ 30,000 for a year. Scholarships are constantly offered to students as well.

Sri Lankan students have such potential, Garbenis said, adding, “It is important to understand the recognition of having a US degree. It means the student is globally employable and with the high literacy rate in Sri Lanka and with the high quality of students coming from Sri Lanka I am certain that the majority will be able to receive scholarships.”

Students from Sri Lanka will find it easy to adopt in Hawaii as the weather and climate is almost the same in Sri Lanka – with long layers of beaches stretched across the shores, students will find themselves at home.

Sri Lankans must now focus on making higher education, preferably US higher education, affordable to the middle class people of the country. Tourism promotion and massive structures are all good but, education is the key to future success she asserted.

On credit evaluation, 100 per cent credit transfers are available, she said. Lankans would find the nursing degree and marine biology programmes highly interesting. Asked why students should pick HPU, she said: “There are a number of reasons. American education and Hawaiian culture along with excellent academic programmes, internship and affordable tuition fees.”
