Tourism is all about hype, not an industry

Sri Lanka Tourism Chairman Dr. Nalaka Godahewa’s description of tourism as reported in the Business Times last week about tourism being more about glamour and hype than being an industry may come as a surprise to those who have known this subject for years.

He says Sri Lanka had been known very well internationally since ancient times but that the 30 year war diminished that popular sentiment. But although it is glamour and hype yet he expects it to be more powerful than any other advertising. If Dr. Godahewa could give a proper definition of the word tourism it could certainly educate lesser informed people like us.
