Cambridge International qualifications for Teachers and Trainers
Conducted by the Ladies' College Department of Vocational Studies

The teachers of today need to respond to students with different learning needs, be conversant with a wide variety of teaching styles, and adapt to the changes and challenges within the profession. The Cambridge qualifications provide professional development to meet these challenges. It provides the framework for continuous professional development and is relevant to teaching and training in a variety of contexts.

The Cambridge International Diploma for Teachers and Trainers is a vehicle for continuing professional development for teachers with experience. This Diploma course is organized into four modules which reflect the key stages of the teaching and learning cycle.

1. Design - Planning and preparing learning programmes and sessions using appropriate content, methods and resources.

2. Practice - Facilitating active learning and learner involvement using a variety of tools such as providing information, demonstrating, supervising activities while paying attention to motivating, encouraging and guiding.

3. Assessment - Consider essential questions on why we assess, how we assess and to whom we report the outcomes of the assessment.

4. Evaluation - Evaluate learning and use it to plan improvement.

For both these courses, assignments are submitted to CIE using an electronic template provided by CIE.

One of the participants who was the first to obtain three distinctions for three of the four modules and thereby qualify for a Distinction Pass stated: "I was searching for a teaching qualification when I was told about the Cambridge Diploma for Teachers at DVS. It seemed a chore for me at the beginning to sacrifice my Saturdays to sit and listen to a lecture.

As time passed by I realized how important the things I learnt there were……. I think I am a much better Facilitator who understands both the general process of learning and the uniqueness of each individual learner. The Cambridge Diploma for teachers taught me how to constantly learn about how best to help the learners learn in the most effective way for them" (Ms Anupama de Alwis).

Both teachers and trainers can follow this course. In 2009, a Trainer from HSBC successfully completed the course and was selected as the best student for the year.
