Thirty five for Wongu Peace cup

A 35 member Sri Lankan contingent is set to participate at The Wongu Pea ce Cup, a multi sport event expected to draw roughly 700 athletes, when the competition takes place from October 9-15, in Seoul, South Korea.

The Sri Lankan sportsmen and women will be competing in Basketball, Netball, Badminton and Table Tennis. Among the athletes hugely favoured to do well at the games are table tennis players Thilini Pushpakumari and Sithira Mahanama. Thilini, who comes from Musaeus College, is taking part at the games for the fourth consecutive year, after claiming gold in the doubles event back in 2004 and finishing fourth and fifth in 2005 and 2007 respectively.

Meanwhile Sithira, a product of Wesley College, is taking part in his second successive Wongu Peace Cup. The youngster will be hoping to reproduce the form that, in 2009, saw him walk away with the Western Province Under 15 Championship.
