KAATSU: Highly advanced medical training utilising the Laws of Nature

Kaatsu training, is truly a medical technology which is far beyond the conventional 'pills and tonics', where the premier value is given to 'utilize the laws of nature' in its healing process.

Kaatsu is a new medical technique invented by Prof.Sir Yoshiaki Sato (MD PhD) of the University of Tokyo, Japan in 1996. The methods of Kaatsu training was generalized for the public use in June 1997. The medical technology uses the fitness method, which can be used for a wide variety of conditions including orthopedic diseases, obesity, hypertension, diabetes and respiratory ailments. According to the 22nd Century Medical Centre project directed by the University of Tokyo hospital affirms that in certain cases Kaatsu medical methodology has the ability of decreasing the reoccurrence of some of these ailments.

Kaatsu Highly Advanced Medical Training Centre was established in Sri Lanka in 2009, following a visit by Prof. Yashiaki Sato, on an invitation made by Lecturer of the University of Sri Jayawardenapura Dr. Jagath Seneviratne, who expressed willingness to introduce Kaatsu Training Methodology to Sri Lanka.

Thus as an initial introduction initiative, the Kaatsu training programme was inaugurated on March 10 2009 at the Sports Unit of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The event was graced by Vice Chancellor Dr. Karunaratne, Dean of the Art Faculty Prof Athukorala, Director of the Sports Council Mr. Ashoka, other staff members and students. The mechanism of the Kaatsu belt and machines were also demonstrated at the event.

Kaatsu Training consists of performing low-intensity resistance training while a relatively light and flexible cuff is placed on the proximal part of one's lower or upper limbs, which provides appropriate superficial pressure.

In line with the above programme, Kaatsu Highly Advanced Medical Training Centre would initiate its Pharmacist Training Programme, where students would be trained for the Pharmacist (external) examination conducted by the Ceylon Medical College Council. The first phase of this course would be held on August 28, 2010.
