Foster mother seeks help to bring up ‘unwanted’ child

By Mohammad Buharruddeen

This is the story of a child who was not wanted by its mother and was brought up by a foster mother.
The story begins at Galwangedihena village in Galewela.

48 year old Bisomenika has been deserted by her husband and children and lived alone by doing menial work for others to earn her living. In January 2006 the child Kavinda born to Siriyalatha and Hemapala has been given to Bisomenika for adoption as Hemapala was a drunkard.

Bisomenika herself was poor but decided to bring up the child and three years have now passed since Siriyalatha deserted the child. Bisomenike’s worry now is as to how the child would grow up if something happened to her.

This love of an adopted mother contrasts with the irresponsible behaviour of the child’s own mother. Bisomenike lives in a small house and wants help from those who sympathise with her. She requests help from kindly people to bring up the child as she is too poor to provide for her needs.
