Economical path to obtain a prestigious degree from OpenArc

"Your child needs a career, not just a degree qualification. He or she has to develop both the right and left brain, aptitude and attitude, knowledge and values and hard skills and soft skills.

Addressing a group of seminar participants at OpenArc Industrial Campus in Colombo 06, Mr. Daya Hettiarachchi, Chairman of OpenArc group stressed the need to develop domain knowledge in various industrial sectors; banking and finance, manufacturing, hospitality, education, health etc. for career progression. He also mentioned the need for practical work experience to earn jobs in the competitive market and management and leadership skills to solve real world problems.

The seminar was organized to educate parents about a new, economical and easier pathway to earn a prestigious Degree in Information Technology. If your child has a passion for computing, then, he/she need not spend another two years and a lot of money for tuition in doing A/Ls.

The country has a need to identify such children with born talents in IT and make them world class IT Engineers at the earliest age without wasting time Mr. Hettiarachchi further emphasised the present day IT need of the country. Our children need not go through unnecessary stress, competition and finally disappointment in the conventional education system. They can commence their IT degree just after O/Ls and obtain a well recognized degree offered by a prestigious University in Sri Lanka or abroad. Those who have been unsuccessful in passing the advanced level examination or getting into the university also can join this programme, he said.

Mr. Vijith Sinhabahu, Managing Director, OpenArc School addressed the gathering and explained the full time undergraduate programme, conducted by OpenArc during all five weekdays. This programme which covers not only up-to-date training but also the industrial placements will prepare a student to face the future challenges in the industry. He quoted the advantages of this programme as:

" Up to now, only foreign universities offered a degree after O/Ls. Hence this is a great opportunity
" You can save the time you spend to follow A/L and the waiting time to get into the local university. You can be an IT graduate before 20years of age

  • It costs only Rs.200,000 (all inclusive with course fees, examination fees, registration fees and Taxes) for three and half years of study, which is unbelievably low compared to the fees charged by equivalent degrees

  • Job oriented training with practical exposure to latest technologies

  • Industrial placements and job opportunities at the completion of the programme

Mr. Sinhabahu also said that OpenArc, since 1991 has developed many world class software solutions to the industry. We have saved billions of foreign exchange to the country by way of import substitution. Many financial institutions and merchant banks use OpenArc software.

He also said that OpenArc School developed two on-line Diploma programmes with the assistance from Distance Education Modernization project of the Ministry of Education. Students can follow those programmes from forty NODES centres island-wide. There is a pilot project to train rural children in Java Programming, launched with the assistance of Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA). Under this project we have developed an on-line tutoring course to train two hundred (200) students at four centres at Moneragala, Peraliya, Dambadeniya and Kesbewa.

We are one of the very few developers selected by the Ministry of Education to develop electronic content for school curriculum. He also mentioned that students of OpenArc School have recorded either best results or very good results at each semester examination of the BIT degree programme conducted by the University of Colombo.

Anyone can visit the University website www.bit.lk and look at the 'Institution Analysis" to check our performance since the inception of the degree programme in the year 2001. Year after year, we have improved our performance levels. Mr. Sinhabahu said the experience and knowledge gained through these projects since 1991 will be shared with the students who join this programme.

Those who missed this opportunity will be able to listen to them once again at 4.00 PM on May 24 and 4.00 PM on May 31 at Second floor, OpenArc Technology Complex, No.120, Highlevel Road, Kirullapone, Colombo 06.
