Cabinet: Colombo gets lion’s share

Eight of the ten members of the UPFA elected to Parliament from the Colombo district were among those appointed to the new Cabinet of Ministers named by President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Friday.

These include Wimal Weerawansa who took up a ministerial post for the first time, Champika Ranawaka, Jeevan Kumaratunga, Dinesh Gunawardena, Bandula Gunawardena, A.H.M.Fowzie and Susil Premjayantha.

The Kalutara and Kurunegala districts got three ministerial posts each while two elected members from the Gampaha, Digamadulla and Ratnapura districts too were made Cabinet Ministers.

The districts of Moneragala, Matale, Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura, Jaffna, Badulla, Puttalam, Galle, Matara and Nuwara Eliya got one Cabinet ministers each.

Five persons appointed as Cabinet ministers were from the UPFA national list including Prime Minister D.M.Jayaratna who was appointed as the Minister of Buddha Sasana and Religious Affairs, as well as G.L.Peiris (Foreign Affairs), Dulles Alahapperuma (Youth Affairs) , Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka (Public Management and Reforms) and D.E.W.Gunasekera. (Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms).
