Tita Nathanielz - All kinds of everything reminds me of you

By Maxie Kariyawasam

When one remembers the great deeds be it cricket, Golf, Jazz, Amateur dancing and a host of social activities one is simply stupefied that Tita possessed so many talents. In reality Tita was a Man that stood out and dazzled in sheer excellence in whatever he undertook. Nay man to me you were unique, like being the first to represent the country in cricket without ever representing your school team not to mention the awesome pace you generated as an opening bowler, taking just three steps for your run -up.

Tita Nathanielz

Tita was an institution at the Colombo Colts Cricket Club where he represented, Captained and was president and later life member for Many years. In appreciation of his great service to the club, they named a lounge at the Colts C.C. Pavilion after him and one has to see this exclusive lounge to appreciate the high regard they always had for him. Likewise he was also a household word at the Royal Colombo Golf club where he was president of the club for many years and he left on indelible mark as the president when the club celebrated it’s 100th year by writing a fabulous book on the first hundred years of the Club which no doubt is a boon to every golf fan.

In Jazz and Amateur Ballroom dancing he too displayed his multi-talents to keep the onlookers petrified. Men may come and Men may go but the likes of Tita Nathanielz will long he remembered whenever cricket and golf-are ever discussed in this Country.

His 91st Birth Anniversary fell on the 6th of this month and though he is gone almost one and a half years now we say to his wife Jeanne, daughter Jilska, son-in-law Michael and grandchildren Alcisha and Tamia that here was a Man who lived life to the full like they all know and I have my doubts whether there will ever be someone as brilliant as the multi-talented Tita Nathanielz for the future generations to admire.
