Royal holds off spirited Challenge from Azhar

Royal College held off a spirited performance from the boys of Azhar Central College, Kandy to register another victory in their Group ‘C’ Under 15 boys ‘A’ division basketball clash yesterday.

Playing on their home court, the Royalists had to battle hard for their 50-44 win. After gaining an early lead, Royal struggled to close out the match. After halftime, with the score 28-14, Azhar resiliently clawed their way back into the match before falling just short of victory.

For Royal A. Menuka was the main scorer with 15 points while A. Rameez with 26 led the points tally for Azhar. Royal’s victory over Azhar Central was preceded by a comfortable 55-44 victory over D.S Senanayake. The halftime score of that match was 28-17. The chief scorers for the Royalists were J. Munasinghe 14 and S. Shiraz 13 while the lead scorer for D.S was Vishwa with 25 points followed by Inam with 12.

In other action at the Royal College courts Azhar Central College, Kandy beat St. Anthony’s College, Wattala 55-31. A. Rameez led the scoring for Azhar with 12 while Harisha with 7 was the main scorer for St. Anthony’s.
