Navy clinches Defence Services Football C’ship

Securing a major victory over a premier side Navy clinched the Defence Services Football Championship on November 12 when they stunned the formidable Air Force team, currently selected for the semi-finals of the Premier League Football Tournament, by defeating them 5-4 in a keenly fought out penalty shoot-out at the final worked off at the Police Grounds.

The game was evenly fought out by the two opponents with no score for anyone in the first half. Yet the suspense was broken loose by Dilshan Fernando booting in the game’s first goal for Air Force in the second half.

Determined to stay on top, Thivanka Nandasiri sprang up an equalizer for Navy drawing the game one all at the final whistle.

In the ensuing penalty shoot-out, the two rivals continued their domnance with precision kicks to give a nail-biting finish to the game. In the end Navy got the better of their rivals by five points to 4.
