Senaka no more

Actor and ardent lover of cinema Senaka Nicholas passed away last week after a brief illness.

Senaka marked his maiden appearing in the silver screen in Udayakantha Warnasuriya’s ‘Hiri Poda Wessa’. Though the scene was brief Senaka performed an unforgettable role as a big made man who develops a secret love towards a teacher in the neighbourhood. Following his successful appearance Senaka was also offered a role in ‘Paya Enna Hiruse’ directed Udayakantha.

Being lover of great Hollywood cinema, Senaka would talk in length about the actors and directors of Hollywood whenever we fell into his company. Senaka’s knowledge on films and
latest releases were very well updated and managed somehow to watch them.

Senaka was a page designer of our sister paper ‘Lankadeepa’ published by Wijeya Newspapers limited. The loss of this gentle and mild friend at the age of 41 is a loss to us as well the Sri Lankan cinema.
