‘Ru Entertainment’; Rupavahini creations in DVDs

A series of Rupavahini productions including popular teledramas, musicals, cartoons, educational programmes and documentaries are available in DVD and VCD formats at the Rupavahini premises and island wide agents.

Produced by the Marketing Division of Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation under the tilte ‘Ru Entertainment’ this is the first time that a television station in Sri Lanka launches its production in DVD formats.

A wide range of programmes including teledramas like ‘Charitha Thunak’, ‘Palingu Menike’, ‘Isuru Yogaya’ and ‘Sandagala Thenna’, Sinhala dubbed cartoons like ‘Dhosthara Honda Hitha’, musical and dancing programmes like ‘Suramya Raththri’, ‘Ridi Reyak’, documentaries on well-known personalities like Pandith W. D. Amaradeva- ‘Himaw Arana’, filmmaker D. B. Nihalsinghe ‘Alakamandawa’ are available in the DVD format.

In addition a few English programmes on Sri Lanka and its beauty and historical value titled ‘Cultural Heritage’, ‘Lanka Like no other’, Golden Island’ and ‘Waterfalls of Sri Lanka’ are also available in the collection. The SLRC Marketing Division also has released a series of educational programmes for Grade 5 scholarships, GCE Ordinary Level and Advanced Level examinations which are available at concessionary prices.

“We realized that there was a great demand for some of our programmes and there was a requests from our viewers,” said Prasanna Jayasundara, Deputy Director General (Marketing) detailing the project.

‘Using the human resources we have in the institution it was an easy task to produce these DVDs,’ he said. ‘Another main aim of producing original DVDs was to avoid the low quality pirated television recording being circulated in the market,’ he added.

Mr. Jayasundara further said that more Rupavahini programmes were to be made into the DVD formats.
