Nine countries in ITF U - 18 tournament

The first of two International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Under 18 circuit tournaments will get under way at the Sri Lanka Tennis Federation (SLTA) Courts on October 5.

Over 30 players from countries such as India, China, Japan, Thailand, Mauritius, Philippines, Korea, Pakistan and hosts Sri Lanka are expected to take part.

The events scheduled to be held are the girls and boy’s singles and doubles. Top seed in the girl’s singles is India’s Aishwarya Agrawal. Sri Lanka’s hopes will rest on players such as Kemalie Herath, Sherene Wijesinghe, Shankari Thayakaran and Nilushi Fernando

The top seed in the boy’s singles is also an Indian in Sameer Paranjape. Sri Lanka will pin their hopes on players such as Ma Shakir, Yasas Dewage, Sharmal Dissanayake, Ashan Dep, Eshan Jayamanne and Thuruna Eshwarage whose qualification has already been accepted to bring plaudits to the country.
