Indika and Chandrawathie come out on top

Indika Bandara of Gampola SC and M.A. Chandrawathie of Vilachchiya Civil Security Service came out on top in the first leg of the Nestomalt Mini Marathon held at Anuradhapura yesterday.

Bandara returned a time of 47.45.6 with Chandrawathie’s timing being 61.36. Two other marathons for boy’s and girl’s were held concurrently with Anura Sanjaya of Horuwila Palugaswewa National School winning the boys category with a timing of 34.28 and Thilina Wathsala of Athakade MV taking girl’s category with a timing of 42.27.9.

The Nestomalt Mini Marathon organized by the Athletics Association of Sri Lanka with the support of the Education Ministry and the Police and sponsored by Nestle Lanka Ltd. saw the participation of over 500 runners.

The second stage of this is scheduled to be held in Ampara on September 12 which will be followed by the third in Kurunegala on September 19 and the last on September 26 at Galle.

The first three winners of all the four Nestomalt Mini Marathon will be awarded with cash awards plus a trophy. The Mini Marathons are being conducted to identify runners who could be put on training to take part in meets at Asian and international level.

Girls – 1. Thilina Wathsala (Athakade MV) 42.27.9. 2. S.M.P. Jayawardena (Vilachchiya MV) 44.24.3. 3. S.M.P. Samaranayake (Anuradhapura MV) 44.51.1.
