Mitipolaarachchi puts Kandy YCC on top
Under 23 Cricket

An unbeaten 93 in 114 balls inclusive of 14 boundaries by Dhanushka Mitipolaarachchi saw Kandy YCC come out on top on the first day of their Under 23 inter-club encounter against SSC at Royal College ground in Reid Avenue.

Heavy rain put a stoppage with play being called off at 4.00 p.m. with Kandy YCC reaching a bold 222 for 3. Mitipolaarachchi was supported by the Kasun duo - Alwis and Ekanayake with whom he was at the wicket having added 86 runs for the fourth wicket.

The opening day’s play of the Under 23 match between Seeduwa/Raddoluwa CC and Chilaw Marians at BRC ground was also called off at 4.40 p.m. Seeduwa/Raddoluwa CC taking first lease of the wicket made 214 and Chilaw Marians facing eight overs managed to score 25 for 1.

BRC fight back

BRC fought back after being bundled out for a paltry 105 to have the home side Tamil Union struggling on 116 for 7 at the end of the first day’s play at the P. Sara Stadium. Earlier Tamil Union right arm pacies Madawa Perera and Suranga Lakmal did the damage sharing ten wickets between them.

Chaminda and Upul shock NCC
Kurunegala YCC pacies Chaminda Pathirana and Upul Bandara sent shock waves to the strong NCC batting line up to have them struggling on 36 for 6 on day one at the NCC ground when play came to halt at 4.45 p.m.. This was after Wimanga Perera who made an unbeaten 76 helped the visitors make 164.

Late start at Moratuwa SC

The match between Moratuwa SC and Bloomfield got off to a late start at the De Zoysa Soysa Stadium in Moratuwa. The match which began at 11.30 a.m. was again called off at 4.30 p.m. with Bloomfield on 70 for 5 after bowling out the home team for 121.

Suranga and Nipuna put

Navy SC in box seat

Suranga Perera and Nipuna Ranasinghe cracked half tons to put Navy SC in the box seat against Kalutara TCC in their Under 23 Division Two three day semi final encounter which began at the Colts ground yesterday.

Suranga slammed 82 inclusive of 11 boundaries while Nipuna cracked 63 with four boundaries and six sixes helping Navy SC to end on a formidable 314 for 6 before rain stopped play.
