A’pura hospital comes in for praise

ANURADHAPURA: The dedicated work of the staff of the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital during the humanitarian operations in the Wanni, nursing thousands of injured soldiers with commitment, came in for praise from the Army Commander.

Army Commander Lt. General Jagath Jayasuriya presenting an award to one of the staff members of the hospital.

A felicitation ceremony to thank the Director of the hospital and staff, was held at the Nurses’ Training School in Anuradhapura on Friday presided by Army Chief Lt. Gen. Jagath Jayasuriya.

A special Upahara award was presented by the Army to the Teaching Hospital and certificates and awards were also presented to all hospital staff who treated the soldiers.

Addressing the gathering Lt. Gen. Jayasuriya thanked the Director of the hospital and all members of staff who treated the soldiers with dedication.

“I gathered a lot of experience as Commander of the Wanni Headquarters where the Tigers, on the pretext of liberating the Tamils, waged war only to fulfil their ambitions. I am full of praise for everyone who laboured day and night to treat the injured soldiers,” he said.

He also thanked those patients who had to be moved to other hospitals to make room for the injured security forces personnel.

Anuradhapura Hospital Director Wijekoon also spoke. Among those present were senior Army personnel including Maj. Gen. Mohan Jayawardene.
