Close to nature at ‘Mount Field Cottage’

By Sanath Weerasuriya

Haldumulla, though is not a popular tourist destination, is fast becoming a major transit point to Arugam Bay and Pottuvil in the Eastern Province. ‘Mount Field Cottage’ is the latest and the most modern addition to the area of mild weather. Located in the 20 acre land in the silent village of Haldumulla, beside of the Colombo- Badulla highway, Mount Field Cottage is an ideal place to spend a relaxed holiday.

Just fourteen months old, ‘Mount Field Cottage’ has managed to attract the attention of Sri Lankan travellers with their nature friendly environment and luxury room service. The place is more popular with honeymooners throughout the year.

It has tastefully designed 15 cottages built towards the peak of the mountain with a panoramic view of mountains and surrounded by rock greeneries. In addition to the Cottages, main bungalow caters to luxury living.

Having natural rocks in the garden and the green hill above the bungalow is the specialty and the main attraction. Most of the walls are built by rock or natural rocks have been used as walls in the rooms.

‘We didn’t want to destroy the beautiful environment. So we used most of the existing nature such as rocks and tress as apart of the structure. Big jak tree in the middle of the main restaurant and rocks as room walls are the results of this design’ said Dhanushka Ranasinghe, the Managing Director of the Hotel.

With fifteen cottages, the accommodation can be provided for single, double and also for a family or a group of travellers. ‘There are some individual cottages with luxury room facilities up in the hill of our Estate. These are ideal for honeymooners and travellers who seek different type of accommodation and concepts’ Dhanushka added.

All the rooms are equipped with modern facilities. In addition to the luxury facilities, all cottages are equipped with mini kitchens for private cooking.

‘Mount Field Cottage’ is a customer oriented resort and it serves according to guests satisfaction.

‘We do serve village cuisine as well as International and authentic Sri Lankan dishes. We prepare to guests choice’ he said.

Apart from relaxed holiday, travellers can enjoy the excursions around the area. Nature walks, bird watching, white water rafting and mountain hiking are some of the popular attractions.

Horton planes , Worlds End, Bambarakanda, Ravana Ella and Dunhinda – most popular and most picturesque waterfalls in Sri Lanka are with one to two hours drive from the hotel.

Trekking to hotel from Idalgashinna or from Ohiya railway station is much popular with overseas travellers. For more information log on to info@mountfieldcottage.com or call 0094 77 5496184 , 0094 60 2575336 for more details.
