Revelling

This week I caught up with a few fans or may I say faithful followers of The Revelations, and here is a hint... The comments were all good!

Savithri Rodrigo, Media Consultant, had this to say. “If I’m not mistaken I first saw them perform at the Russian Cultural Centre and I was amazed as I didn’t realise how much talent they had! They perform acapella and their amazing harmonising put together shows their talent. They have a ball when they perform and through their talent, makes their music such a pleasure to listen to. I feel their church influence is part of the reason they perform with so much passion and can make such an impact in the international arena as well.”

According to the High Commissioner of the Maldives to Sri Lanka, Ali Hussain Didi he had happened to come across them just before their departure for the World Championships. “Being an enthusiast in the music industry – as I have been looking after musicians since 1991 – I noticed their talent and they caught my ear, so to speak. When I first heard them, I was quite sure that they would go to great heights. Since they became the World Champions I have tried to attend most of their concerts and will be attending this one as well.”

“I think they are just a unique collaboration. They are not only an ensemble of dynamic vocals but are my friends who I truly respect and love,” said Natasha Ratnayake, a popular singer herself. “They are dedicated musicians, and I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing this first hand by working with them on my album. I believe, they’re an example of what a few people can achieve by working together, with one heart, one mind and one spirit. They’re a great bunch of people who are really simple but full of enthusiasm and have certainly done Sri Lanka proud and I wish them more success in the future to come!”

Gananath Dassanayake, winner of TNL Onstage (2005) and leader of the Jags Quartet expressed that Ishan de Lanerolle of the Revelations was his friend at school and he had had been going for their concerts since they started performing in the 90’s. “I’ve seen a big difference in them since then especially from the crowds they generate – from the Russian Cultural Centre to the BMICH. Their selections of songs are wide and varied having started from gospel music and then gone on to perform many popular numbers. They are a really professional outfit - from their music, costumes, lights, sound and choreographed movements.”

According to Shehara Liyanage a member of Soul Sounds, and a DJ at Yes FM, “They sing un-accompanied and their voices are the instruments that back them up! As a person watching them I can say they are just fantastic! One song in particular I appreciate is their rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody which has very difficult parts but they even do the instrumental parts and the interlude all with their voices – it’s amazing! They will go from strength to strength. Through The Revelations Academy, they give everybody a chance and have been very encouraging, and maybe some day when The Revelations stop singing, the kids can continue from there!”
