Raigam rewards teledrama talents

Raigam Tele Award-2008 organised by the Kingdom of Raigam honoured many a talent in television at the fifth successful tele-award ceremony held recently at the BMICH.

The most number of awards including the Best Teledrama was bagged by ‘Kaluwara Gedara’ made by experienced teledrama director Sudath Rohana based on Martin Wickremasinghe’s novel by the same name. The Most Popular Teledrama was ‘Sathara Denek Senpathiyo’ directed by Jayantha Chandrasiri.
“It was very tough competition compared to all the previous competitions,” said.

the head of the Jury, Dr. Patrick Rathnayake at a press conference held for the media. Others in the Jury included Dr. Ajantha Hapuarachchi, Jayantha Rukmani Siriwardana, Chandrasiri Bogamuwa and Visharada Edward Jayakody.

Among the major award winners veteran actor Janak Premalal named the Best Actor for his role in ‘Karuwala Gedara’ and actress Nilmini Tennekoon who was adjudged the best actresses. The Most Popular Actor was Amila Abeysekara and Nehara Peiris the Most Popular Actress.

A significant event of the award ceremony was the felicitation of veteran filmmaker and television artiste Titus Totawatte who was given the special lifetime achievement award. Experienced actress Iranganie Serasinghe, too was felicitated for her long contribution to the medium of mini-screen.

“Our main aim of the award ceremony is to promote this popular medium of art and year by year we want to expand it and do a much better ceremony,” Chairman and CEO of The Kingdom of Raigam, Dr. Ravi Liyanage said, speaking about the Raigam Tele Award-2008. Gayan Wickramasinghe was given the Up Coming Actor award while Anuruddika Padukkage was named Up Coming Actress.

Among the other award winners were the late Tissa Abeysekara who was awarded the Best Scriptwriter (Kaluwara Gedara), Eheliyagoda Somathilaka (Kaluwara Gedara)- Best Art Director, K. A. Dharmasena (Kaluwara Gedara) - Best Cameraman, Rukmal Nirish (Samanalunta Wedi Thiyanna) - Best Editor, Nawarathna Gamage (Sudu Kapuru Pethi)- Best Music Director.

In addition Special Jury certificates were given to Harini Wishwanadan and Rusiru Tharinda Pannila and jury appreciation awards were given to Ruwanthi Mangala, Asela Jayakody and Semini Iddamalgoda for acting and Sunil Costa (for the direction of Sherlock Holmes) and Jayalath Manorathna (for writing the script for ‘Waten Eha’).
