Wickramarachchi springs the biggest surprise

BATA- The Sunday Times Most Popular School Boy Cricketer 2009
Krishan Wickramarachchi

Now it seems like it is the Outstation Contest that is getting hot. Last week it was S.H. Indunil Kumara of Devapathiraja MV, Ratgama who made a splash by taking the second spot. Alas! At the end of this count the fans of Gamini MV Bentota skipper Krishan Wickramarachchi have rallied around him and have leapfrogged him into the first place at the end of count 15 of the BATA-The Sunday Times Most Popular Outstation Schoolboy Cricketer of the year contest.

At the end of this count Wickramarachchi who polled an impressive 671 votes, moved to the top with a total of 2591 votes to his credit with a 59 vote lead over Indunil Kumara while Niwanka Abeyrathne who led until the last count has 2409 votes against his name.

In the All-Island Contest Isham Ghouse of Zahira College is still in the lead, but at the end of this count Peterite Angelo Perera has done a better poll of 780 against his count as against the 581 polled by Ghouse.

Once again it looks as if Aadhil Niyas of Gateway College is having a free run as he has collected 3471 votes over his closest rival.

Readers Prizes go to: R. Wijetilleke, Pallegedera, Horombawa, 2. Nilanthi Mudalige 126B, Kaluaggala, Hanwella. 3. Mrs. Nelya Herft, 32, Keells Housing Scheme, Gonawela, Kelaniya.
