Sixteen top teams battle for honours - Inaugural Schools T20

Sixteen top teams around the island will battle for the inaugural Munchee Youth T20 trophy scheduled to get underway on May 12.

This is the first T20 schools cricket tournament organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association (SLSCA). It will be sponsored by Ceylon Biscuits Limited and will no doubt attract much interest.
The tournament will see the best schoolboy cricketers of the caliber of Dinesh Chandimal and Mateesha Perera (Ananda), Angelo Perera and Chathura Peiris (St Peter’s), Bhanuka Rajapakse and Kusal Perera (Royal), Shameera Weerasinghe (St Joseph’s), Rushan Jaleel (Trinity), Imesh Udayanga (Dharmasoka), Buwaneka Ekanayake (Dharmaraja) and a host of other aspiring or future stars of Sri Lanka taking the field.

The players mentioned above are presently on national duty representing the Sri Lanka Under 19 team against their Bangladesh counterparts in their back yard. The tournament which was scheduled to be held from April 27 was postponed due to the unavailability of some of the top players who are on tour.
The tournament schedule is May 12 and 13 (pre-quarter finals), May 14 and 15 (Quarter Finals), May 16 (Semi Finals) and May 17 (finals). The venues for the pre-quarter and quarter finals have not been finalized yet but the semi final and final is scheduled to be played at De Zoysa Stadium in Moratuwa.

The teams due to participate are St Peter’s (limited over champions), St Joseph’s, Ananda, D.S. Senanayake MV, Dharmaraja, Dharmasoka, Mahinda, Maliyadeva, Maris Stella, Nalanda, Prince of Wales, Royal, St Patrick’s Jaffna, Thurstan, Trinity and Zahira.
