Changes to SriLankan’s FlySmiles programme

Some criticism has been levelled at the ‘FlySmiles’ programme which was launched approximately nine months ago, for lack of features, said Manoj Gunawardena, CEO, SriLankan Airlines, at a press briefing at Taj Samudra held to announce the new concept of Fly Smiles, last week, adding that some changes were now being made.

He said that Sri Lankan Airline’s FlySmiles that was ‘Frequently Flyer’ has now been changed to a customer loyalty programme with ‘Rewards and Delights’.

To provide these rewards and delights, SriLankan Airlines has now signed agreements with Malaysian Airlines, Etihad Airways, Dialog Telecom, American Express, Standard Chartered, Traveling Connect, Hertz, Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces, Siddhalepa and Deccan Aviation (Lanka).

Mr Gunawardena said that the 10 partners provide services through FlySmiles co-branded credit cards (American Express Platinum, and Standard Chartered Gold and Classic) communications (Traveling Connect and Dialog Telekom), international air travel (Malaysia Airlines and Etihard Airways), domestic air travel (Deccan Aviation), hotels (Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces), car rentals (Hertz), and spas (Siddhalepa).

Through this new partnership the members of FlySmiles can earn FlySmiles miles (points) during their day to day activities even without traveling, simply by using FlySmiles co-branded credit cards for everyday purchases, using their mobile phones and many other methods.

Another aspect of the partnership is the value addition extended to the partner programmes which will enable members t earn additional miles. Most partners have extended value additions also in terms of discounts and enhanced services to FlySmiles members.

Those who use a FlySmiles co-branded credit card to purchase an air ticket on SriLankan or any other partner airlines will earn miles for purchasing and also when flying giving them the opportunity to earn miles twice.
