Christmas has always been one of those holidays that afford you ample opportunity to do good, even as you have plenty of fun. Case in point: In One Accord, is a charity event devoted to raising funds for differently abled children. It brings together several notable artists, including musicians and dancers for one splendid evening's entertainment.
"We see it as an opportunity to unify in music for a cause that requires our action," say REACH, the organisers of the event. Their diverse programme will bring together Bharatanatayam dancers, and ballet dancers, western and eastern inspired musicians. The latter are also expected to perform a cheering selection of holiday melodies. Expect appearances by the St. Joseph's College Choir, Menaka De Fonseka Sahabandu, Eshantha de Andrado, Ishan de Lannerolle and Rohan de Lannerolle – all of whom are renowned soloists – and Melanie Stephen from the Oosha Garten of Ballet.
The event is created by REACH – a charity founded by an enthusiastic, proactive group of young people. Founded in 2006, REACH works in conjunction with AFLAC International, a government approved charity. So far they have worked towards funding the nutritional requirements for a Home for disabled children, while simultaneously investing effort and resources into organising health camps in rural Sri Lanka. This year, their ambitions have grown to include getting medical help and special therapy for a group of differently-abled children currently residing in a home in Dankotuwa. REACH say that their main goal is to help these children realise their full potential, through the use of techniques like art and speech therapy.
