Here we go into a world of magical images

By Upali Gunasekera, Matara

You see amazing images in modern advertising using electronic media: goggle-eyed women with toothy grins extolling the virtues of confectionery; overweight children sprouting “milk” moustaches; a sleeping yellow Mazda springing to life as a lion in full roar.

There was also that striking visual of the magic train of the future arriving at the bleak and bare Fort Railway Station, melting into the limitless tunnel of the human imagination. Paris, Berlin and the frozen North Pole came within our reach in a flash.

Then there was the joie de vivre of that lovely damsel who set all male hearts on fire, as she pirouetted in a dainty whirl back to where she emerged from.

She will linger in our minds for all time.
