Flood-hit city faces heightened security

As peace talks between the Government and the LTTE are being held in Geneva, security in several key positions in Colombo and suburbs has been beefed up in view of a possible terrorist attack.

Security near military establishments including the Air Force Headquarters and other important installations in Colombo were strengthened.

New road blocks and checkpoints were put in place at close distance in the city and its suburbs. Vehicles entering the capital were also closely scrutinized at the main entry points.

Traffic in many roads which has been already affected due to heavy rains and flooding was worsened with the deployment of additional security measures.
