‘Facilitating access to justice’: Law Week theme

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) and the Colombo High Court Lawyers Association plan to implement the theme ‘Facilitating Access to Justice’ by providing an opportunity to people to participate in educational programmes focused on legal issues in all areas of the law.

These activities coincide with the declaration of National Law Week from October 30 to November 5.

“This is the first time Sri Lanka is celebrating National Law Week. The BASL will organize forums in every part of the country and also an All-Island Art Competition among school children with the cooperation of the Education Ministry,” BASL Secretary Sunil Abeyratne said.

He said an exhibition organised by the Bar Association in association with Sarvodaya, Women In Need (WIN) and the Weeramantry International Centre for Peace Education and Research will be held from November 2 to 5 at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Centre.

Association president U.R. De Silva said a legal aid clinic would be held at Ananda College on November 2 for students and teachers.
