Bank of Ceylon, the country’s No.1 Bank on part of its Corporate Social Responsibility takes part in sponsoring the island-wide “Nena Mihira” Educational Rupavahini programme in inspiring and guiding youngsters who are sitting for the upcoming Grade five scholarship examination to excel in education.

The initial programme was held in Kamburupitiya Upali Wijeyawardana Hall under the auspicious of BOC Chief Marketing Officer Mr. Sameera Liayange, Chief Manager Marketing Mr. Ranjith Jayathilake, Southern Province Operation Manager Mrs.Saroja Ilangamge. The full-day programme saw the active participation and engagement of over thousand children and their parents. Nena-Mihira Grade 5 Scholarship Seminar Series has been initiated by the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation in partnering with BOC. Under the Seminar Series, it’s been scheduled to conduct programs covering the entire country in Sinhala and Tamil. Nana Mihira is the leading national programme catering to children facing Grade-five scholarship examination.

Although, a key focus of this programme is to guide the youngsters to optimize their performance in the upcoming Grade 5 scholarship examination, it also aims to develop their life-long learning skills which are critical for their future education and subsequent career prospects beyond the Grade five scholarship examination. As the parents play a special role in shaping up their children’s education, a dedicated coaching programme has been designed simultaneously for parents with a view to guide them on how to assist children in their growth cycle and in addition educate them on financial literacy to build financially secure environment for the family. This also includes special program on inspiring good aesthetic taste, creativity and social networking habits among children.

On part of empowering Sri Lankan children, the bank maintains its children savings account – “BOC Ran Kekulu” that consists with special features including a unique scholarship scheme for Grade 5 scholarship achievers. Scholarship achievers who have fulfilled the eligible criteria to receive this benefit will be awarded as an encouragement to pursue their studies. These benefits are aligned to earn more benefits to the account holder as he/she grows up while improving their savings habits.
