A Cabinet proposal to provide the Nawalapitiya Al-Safa School with two acres of land from the Railway Department has been accepted.

The school was established in 2013 under the 1000 secondary school reconstruction programme. The school had around four to five students at the time, and a Railway Department warehouse provided the required space.

However, with the increasing number of students, the warehouse no longer provides enough space and the need to build permanent buildings has arisen.

Addressing this issue, the Cabinet accepted the proposal of Transport Minister Bandula Gunawardena and Education Minister Susil Premajayantha, to allocate a two acre land for the school.

In a Cabinet briefing held on August 16 Mr. Gunawardena said this was a “regional victory.”
