J’pura University wins big at AIESEC International Excellence Awards 2021

The University of Sri Jayawardanepura emerged as the champions of Asia Pacific Region in the global awarding ceremony of AIESEC – International Congress Electrolux Excellence Awards 2021 organised byAIESEC International.

“This indeed establishes a great milestone in the history of AIESEC Sri Lanka as this marks the highest achievement ever in the history of AIESEC Sri Lanka to have been secured by a local committee,” Vikum Wijekoon, President of AIESEC at the University of Sri Jayawardanepura, said.

AIESEC is the world’s largest youth run organisation, which has an extensive presence worldwide in more than 120 countries. Each year, this international awarding ceremony is held to recognise the most successful accomplishments made by the AIESEC entities on a global scale.

“All the AIESEC entities in the world compete for tahese awards and being recognised as champions at this widely reputed global platform is in fact a truly commendable achievement,” Mr Wijeykoon said.

AIESEC in University of Sri Jayawardanepura was recognised as the overall Champions of the Asia Pacific region for its excellence, bagging two of the most prestigious awards; Excellence Award for Local Committees – Asia Pacific Region and the Outgoing Global Talent Award – Asia Pacific Region.

Furthermore, the local committee was nominated for the following awards representing the Asia Pacific Region; Engage with AIESEC Award, Finance and Legal Award, GTe Collaboration Award, Network Engagement Award. AIESEC in University of Sri Jayawardanepura has truly set the bars high in excellence and glorified the impactful youth of Sri Lanka by giving credibility to the efforts of its valuable membership.

“It is truly admirable how AIESEC in University of Sri Jayewardenepura still initiated productive engagement in the youth and fostered growth through various projects and initiatives despite the hardships of the COVID-19 pandemic that has threatened the world community at large,” Mr Wijeykoon added.

Mr Wijekoon along with his executive board, would like to deem this opportunity to extend the sincere gratitude to the university’s Vice Chancellor SudanthaLiyanage, Staff advisor of AIESEC in USJ Prof. Prasad Jayaweera, the career guidance unit of the university and most importantly, the beloved and hardworking membership of the local committee who contributed massively to secure this remarkable accomplishment.

“AIESEC in University of Sri Jayewardenepura, now more than ever, is determined to progress forward with refreshed ambition and enthusiasm to create a positive impact in the young community of Sri Lanka, while inspiring thousands of young lives globally,” Mr Wijeykoon said.
