The dawn of 3rd September 2001 is to be recorded in the history of Lyceum International school’s fraternity, as the strong healthy root gave birth to its 3rd branch to sprout in Wattala, under the guidance of Founder Dr. Mohan Lal Grero, and Coordinating Principal Dr.(Mrs) Kumari Grero. In a seven-acre land, along A.S.P. Liyanage Mawatha, in a single storied building consisting of a few classes and a library only accommodating primary students of grades one to five, began the journey of Lyceum International School Wattala, with a vision to create a strong teaching and learning environment pioneered by eighteen dynamic teachers.
The academic mission advanced in leaps and bounds. Greater developments took the school promisingly ahead for its journey to be continued with rapid expansion in infrastructure and educational fields to meet the mounting demand of a high-quality international school in the fast-developing city of Wattala.
Today, the not-for-profiteducational institution – Lyceum International School Wattala, governed by a very young leader, Mr Nikitha Grero – the Director, stands tall with pride among the many new international schools in Wattala for its unparalleled milestones.
Presently, the school consists of four large 5 storied buildings with 10 spacious classrooms on each floor to accommodate approximately 5600 students, both boys and girls from multi-ethnic communities and nearly 750 well trained, experienced teachers from pre-primary to the senior school and the non-academic staff who are the beacon of strength and the guiding light to our young souls within an inspiring teaching environment and the operational movement of the school.
The infrastructure of the school provides a myriad of facilities.
Inspired by the great Greek philosopher, Aristotle and with the motto “Know Thyself”, Lyceum schools strive to provide a holistic and a futuristic education with a touch of cultural heritage to every student who enters the school.
Lyceum Wattala can proudly acclaim the academic glory brought by Lyceumers to their Alma mater achieving international awards at the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards held each year. Our students were also awarded the Top in the World and Top in Sri Lanka in Accounting, English Literature, English, Mathematics, Economics and Business Studies. At the National AL examinations, many students have obtained District rankings of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.
Indeed, anchored with a well-balanced academic foundation of very high standards, most students across the Lyceum schools, including Lyceum Wattala, have excelled in obtaining higher educational qualifications within both International as well as National Universities in a variety of fields. During the past few years approximately 100 Lyceumers have gained entrance to prestigious National Universities. Numerous students from Lyceum International School, Wattala were able to obtain significant scholarships for their higher education with the support of the Lyceum Placements Unit to Singapore, Malaysia, UK, USA, Canada, Japan and Germany.
Students of Lyceum Wattala have gained both all island and world recognition in an array of sports and co-curricular activities. Students, for their outstanding prowess, have also received National Colours in sports.
Lyceum Wattala were the proud Champions of the Inter International Schools’ Athletic Championship (ISAC) for 13 years and for 12 consecutive years, Champions of the International Schools’ Swimming Championship for 8 consecutive years, Champions of the Inter International Schools’ Karate Competition for 9 consecutive years and Champions of the Inter – International Schools’ Scrabble Championship for 13 consecutive years.
Today with 20 years of triumphant education Lyceum continues its journey with new strategies to survive the global pandemic. Even though the entire education mechanism of the country was interrupted due to COVID 19 Pandemic situation, we, as a responsible school, never stopped our academic process, which was initiated by The Director, Mr. NikithaGrero. The curriculum of the Lyceum schools continued successfully with the commencement of an online learning platform and was moved to the latest virtual collaboration platform called Microsoft Teams. With the rapid change in technology, our students’ exposure to the new virtual platform, Microsoft Teams was very useful during the Global Pandemic Situation.
Lyceum International School provides a myriad of extracurricular activities with the objective of helping students to become well rounded individuals with exceptional skills. Deviating from everyday stress in the classroom and getting involved in other activities refresh their young minds and open them up to a new range of possibilities.
Despite all the challenges faced in the year 2020 and 2021 Lyceum International School Wattala will continue to move forward with conspicuous achievements reminding the society that life is not about the destination, but about the journey of moulding young souls as future ambassadors.
Every year, every day, every hour brings forth new horizons, new frontiers to be attained under the able guidance, and the humble beginning of the journey will continue to serve a generation governed by the Founder Dr. Mohan Lal Grero, Coordinating Principal Dr.(Mrs) Kumari Grero and the Director Mr.NikithaGrero. We can always be galvanized into action and taste glory. In our own way, let us shed a tiny ray of hope, heralding the dawn of a brighter future for SRI LANKA.
