A four storeyed building for plant research, with a construction cost of Rs. 385 million, was opened in the University of Peradeniya Faculty of Agriculture.

The building was declared open by the University Vice Chancellor Upul B. Dissanayake. The Deputy Vice Chancellor Parakrama Karunaratne was also present.  This building houses lecture halls for 250 undergraduates and 100 undergraduates could conduct research at the same time in the building. The fourth floor houses an 80 foot greenhouse. Among those present at the occasion, were the Agriculture Faculty Dean Gamini Pushpakumara, the Science Department Head Mudith Ariyaratne and Agriculture Faculty staff members.
