Education Minister Professor G.L. Peiris instructed the University Grants Commission (UGC) to submit a report regarding the admissions of students who sat for the 2019 G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) Examination.

The report has been called to look into the matter to regarding disparity between the Old Syllabus and New Syllabus university intake.

The Minister said this as a response to a question raised by National People’s Power (NPP) Parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayaka regarding the admission.

Due to the change in the syllabus every five years, first attempt students had faced injustice, Mr Dissanayaka pointed out. He also requested to release the cut off marks before conducting the examinations. The students who sat for the A/L examinations in 2019 were in a difficult situation as the cut off marks for admission to state universities were announced after A/L exam admissions took place,” Mr Dissanayaka said

Meanwhile, Education Minister, G.L. Peiris said to take into account the judgment of the case and the recommendations made by the Supreme Court judges regarding university admission.

This case which is continuing since 2012 regarding university admission students is still pending in the Supreme Court, the Mr Peiris said.
