Procrastination is a Venom

View(s):

Many of us have opened doors to be stung by many detrimental stings which have hindered our capacity to be victorious in all avenues of life. These stings have become a very powerful influence in our lives, so much so that they have taken control of our inner control system, the Body – Soul and the Spirit. One such greatly venomous sting is “Procrastination”. In general, this is known as postponement or delaying of things. An attitude doesn’t arise overnight. It is exactly similar to a tree that bears fruits, first a seed will be planted, then a sapling will grow, further it will be watered, fertilised and nurtured.

Finally, it will bear fruits that might be good or bad for human consumption. Likewise, the negative attitudes that we retain are the thoughts which we’ve permitted to be planted in our garden of life. Unfortunately, many of us keep watering and fertilizing them on a daily basis assisting them to grow till they become strong negative attitudes which have taken control of our lives and are even capable of defining us.

Procrastination is such a strong venom capable of destroying one’s entire life.

A young man greatly depressed came to me for a counselling session. He was very anxious that nothing he starts meets an end. While excavating deep into his case it was quite evident that the root cause for his failures is the venom of procrastination. This venomous practice has begun at an early age.

As a kid, he started getting up late to go to school in the morning, he never took the effort to wash his plate after meals and he did not clean his room on a daily basis.

Unfortunately his parents have kept a blind eye on him nurturing the seed of postponement.  Each and every day he kept on nurturing the seed of delaying by postponing little activities in his day to day life not realizing that the postponement of little things will lead him to the progression of a venomous attitude “Procrastination”. Even the root cause behind suffering with Gastritis, which has affected many of us, is a result of procrastinating one’s meals.

The danger of procrastination is that when it is being developed into the stage of an attitude, the reversal process is very painful as it demands rigorous changes in the thinking process. The formation of an attitude is attained through a continuous pattern, where an individual continuous to respond to a feeling with the same thinking pattern and the same action. When the same feeling is responded with the same thinking then the same action subsequently becomes his or her behavior. The repetitive behavior, signals the mind to accept it as the default method of response of a person thus on similar occasions it automatically responds with the default action.

When procrastination becomes your default reaction to a situation you will constantly escape the reality. People who escape the reality as a habit have never ever won the battles in life, because Victory means conquering the challenges. Victory is not about avoiding the challenges.

It is indeed an unfortunate sight to see the younger generation postponing many things in their day to day life. From a very young age they start avoiding waking up early in the morning and studying on time, it outspreads to other similar situations not knowing that they are cultivating a very dangerous venom inside their system which is known as Procrastination.

These kids grow up to become adults who postpone their exams, marriage, building a house, buying a car, quitting smoking and many other things in life. They think that it could be done tomorrow but for procrastinators there will be no tomorrow. When they reach tomorrow it becomes their today and they will keep postponing the same for tomorrow. As Victor Kiam once said “Procrastination is opportunity’s assassin.”

When you postpone an opportunity you are literally losing it, as the life span of an opportunity is limited. If you don’t grab it the moment it is available you might not have it again to seize. Therefore, get over this silent killer called “procrastination” as it’s prone to kill your victorious life.

In conclusion you should seriously think thrice on what Benjamin Franklin said, “You may delay, but time will not”.
