The Ministry of Education (MoE) has allocated Rs. 158 million to coach children in Vocational Training (VT) subjects in schools, to empower schoolchildren to be employable after their 13-year-long education in schools.

This follows the Government making a 13-year school Education compulsory and introducing VT subjects in the syllabus.

For this purpose, Rs. 500,000 has been allocated to 299 National schools to train their students to be productive and efficient, when they leave schools and enter the job market.

Accordingly, under circular No.40/2018, the allocations will be given to School Development Societies, which will oversee that the monies are spent appropriately in teaching and learning methods that will include school curricular activities, subject based activities and extracurricular activities.

This will also ensure that no student fails the Ordinary Level exams and instead, will give them an equivalent qualification to the NVQ4 qualification obtained from VT schools. - CC
